Washing Silver Socks Correctly — Preserve the Antibacterial Effect

Washing Silver Socks Correctly — Preserve the Antibacterial Effect

Introduction

Silver socks are an investment. With the right washing routine, they last much longer and retain their antibacterial properties for years. Here are the do's and don'ts.

The Right Washing Temperature

Wash silver socks at a maximum of 40°C. Higher temperatures damage the silver fibres and affect the structure of the fabric. Cold washing at 30°C is also perfectly fine — it saves energy and is good for the fibres. Always avoid boil washes.

Which Detergent Can You Use?

Use a mild, liquid detergent without bleach. Chlorine is the biggest enemy of silver fibres and destroys the antibacterial effect after just a few washes. Enzymatic and biological detergents are safe. Avoid powder detergents containing bleaching agents.

Fabric Softener: Yes or No?

Preferably not. Fabric softener deposits a silicone layer on the fibres that reduces both moisture-wicking and antibacterial properties. If you do want to use softener, use a small amount and not with every wash.

Drying: Machine or Air?

Dry silver socks preferably in the air at room temperature. High drying temperatures in the tumble dryer damage both the silver fibres and the elastic threads in the topband, shortening the lifespan.

How Long Do Silver Socks Last?

With correct care, the antibacterial effect is maintained after 50+ washes. Suprgoods silver socks are tested for durability and long-lasting effectiveness after repeated washing.

Conclusion

A little extra care when washing significantly extends the lifespan of your silver socks and keeps the protection intact.
